APHA serves as a convenor, catalyst and advocate to build capacity in the public health community.
We champion optimal, equitable health and well-being for all. We speak out for public health issues and policies backed by science. We are the only organization that combines a 150-year perspective, a broad-based member community and the ability to influence federal policy to improve the public's health.

Public Health Code of Ethics
General
The Public Health Code of Ethics is a set of professional standards and expectations intended for public health practitioners throughout the field. In 2002, a code entitled Principles of the Ethical Practice of Public Health was developed by a team of public health practitioners engaged in a project with the Public Health Leadership Society. The American Public Health Association adopted the principles, and they were published in the American Journal of Public Health.

APHA members have long been champions of collaboration and commitment to public health. By continuing to promote a culture of respect, responsibility, fairness and honesty, we aim to maintain an environment and member experience that engenders trust, confidence and performance excellence. APHA has adopted, and is committed to implementing, the following code of conduct. Members are responsible for holding themselves and one another to these standards.

This clearinghouse for information about the history of the Association houses the:
- Association library — books and reports published by APHA as well as general works on public health.
- Association archives — the repository such institutional records as Executive Board and Governing Council meeting minutes, Annual Meeting programs, journals and other periodicals, Affiliate and Section Materials, photographs and audiovisual documentation of APHA programs.
